Regimental Drum Major Association Officers

 

 

 

     

Co-Founder and Vice President Emeritus Drum Major Michael W. ("Mick") Stewart enlisted in the United States Army upon graduating high school and served with 16th and 63rd Signal Battalion, Signal Corps Regiment, 1985-1988.  Upon ETS from federal military service he served as a High-Speed Traffic Enforcement Officer (Prairie view Police Department, Waller County) and Deputy Constable (Precinct 4 Constable's Office, Fort Bend County) as a certified Texas Peace Officer, 1989-1993.

 

He re-enlisted for state military service, with HHC 8th (MP) Brigade, TEXAS STATE GUARD (TXSG), 1991-93 and 2004-2005.  Activated for Hurricane's Katrina and Rita, he served as Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Staff Duty NCO at several Red Cross shelters in East Texas while helping process over 25,000 evacuees from Louisiana and Texas. 

 

Mick joined his first pipe band in 1988 (Hamilton Pipe Band, Houston, Texas), 1988-1989 and played with two  more civilian bands:  Houston Highlanders (Houston, Texas, 1989-1994) and the Lone Star Pipe Band (Beaumont, Texas, 1994-2001) as tenor bass drummer and Drum-Major.

 

Though initially trained as a piper, Mick learned regimental-style mace drill from CSM J E E Smith (Black Watch RHR), Drum-Major (WOII) T E R McGrady (Cameron Highlanders) and the late Pipe-Sergeant Iain McPherson (9th Bn., The Glasgow Highlanders HLI).  He served as Senior Drum-Major, Massed Bands  at the Houston Highland Games (1990, 1992), Texas Scottish Festival (1991, 1993) and the Celtic Nations Irish Festival (1997, 1999).  He also plays the tenor and bass drum.

 

Mick currently serves as Texas State Chairman, Mountain West Zone, Cold War Veterans Association (CWVA), Drum-Major (Vice President-Emeritus) Regimental Drum-Majors Association (RDMA), and is co-founder and National Secretary of the United States Armed Forces Veteran's Pipes and Drums.
