Evening Wear Day Wear

Evening Wear Uniform

Overview

This formal style of uniform is occasionally used by competing drum majors. It is easier to assemble, somewhat less constricting than Full Dress, yet looks stately.

Composition

Evening Dress includes the following items:

Glengarry or Balmoral

Dress shirt

Dress Sporran (Typically fur)

      (non-diced)

Tie

Kilt Pin

Badge

Jabot and Cuffs (Montrose)

Hose (white or crème)

Hackle

Kilt

Flashes

Jacket (Montrose, Sheriffmuir

Waist Belt

Dress Sgian Dubh

      Prince Charlie)

Ghillie Brogues

Care hints

Generally dry clean or follow the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning instructions. I would have white dress shirts professionally pressed and starched (medium). Do not starch jabots and cuffs. Bring (at least) one shirt per day of competition. I would also opt for ghillie brogues as opposed to standard lace up shoes.

Synopsis

This stately uniform allows for increased freedom of movement when compared to Full Dress.  However, for the least constricting uniform, most competing Drum Majors prefer a Day Wear uniform.

Care hints

As with Evening Dress, professionally dry clean or follow the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning instructions. I would have white dress shirts professionally pressed and starched (medium). Bring (at least) one shirt per day of competition. I would also opt for ghillie brogues as opposed to standard lace up shoes.

Synopsis

Competing drum majors favor this uniform.  It allows the most range of motion of the uniform possibilities (outside of Shirt Sleeve Order). The reduction of uniform parts ensures that there are fewer things for a judge to be critical of during inspection.  However, because there are fewer parts, the wearer must ensure that fit and alignment is impeccable.
